Come explore the far reaches of the Mohave Desert as you navigate your own ATV through Eldorado Canyon and tour Techatticup Gold Mine.
Our guides will lead you through cholla forests and side canyons, busy with desert wildlife. During our travels, we often see red-tail hawks, lizards, desert tortoise, and jackrabbits. Spring rains produce frequent encounters with waterfalls and streams. The summer heat brings with it Desert Bighorn sheep, thirsty for the waters of the nearby Colorado River
©2005 Boulder City OutfittersOld mine shafts plaster the landscape; evidence of hopes and dreams long since vanished deep in the heart of the desert. One of the biggest mining booms in state history occurred here, in the El Dorado Canyon. Gold and silver were discovered here around 1859.
The small community that exists here today was named for Charles Nelson, a prospector who was slain at his mine in 1897. As we ride into the valley and through the town of Nelson, we begin to see the remnants of old buildings. Further into the canyon lays the (supposedly haunted) Techatticup mine. Eldorado Canyon was one of the largest ports on the Colorado, and a town so lawless, many sheriffs refused to go there!
Nevada is dotted with many ghost towns, but where else can you find a ghost MINE? Traveling through the Techatticup mine, photographers often capture pictures of 'orbs', what some believe to be spirits or ghosts. The mine itself has been restored and preserved over the last decade along with a number of buildings at the mine site. Across from the mine sits a historic building which serves as a museum to the area and to the Techatticup Mine. Here you can browse through a display of old photographs, tools and other mining memorabilia.
This adventure is perfect for beginners and advanced alike. You'll be exploring Eldorado Canyon for about 2.5 hours on your ATV, combined with a guided tour of the old Techatticup Gold Mine. Your guides are local experts, knowledgeable in desert ecology, flora and fauna, wildlife, and the history of the area. All of our guides are first aid and CPR certified.

The Techatticup Mine has been the set of nine movies. The first, Breakdown, with Kurt Russell and Kathleen Quinlan, was released in 1997 and several artifacts from the movie can be seen at the site. Several years later, the movie 3000 Miles to Graceland, was released in 2001, parts of which were filmed at the mine site. This movie, again with Kurt Russell, as well as an all star cast including Kevin Costner, Courtney Cox, Christian Slater, and David Arquette, shot several scenes here including the scene where the Lucky Strike gas station blows up.
