Covered Wagon, Buggy or Stagecoach Rides.

Preserving the Grand Canyon: Ranching and nature working together! Our ranch only raises Corriente cattle which are free to roam over 106,000 acres of mountainous terrain. The hardy Corriente can be traced back to the first cattle brought to the new world by the Spanish as early as 1493.

Our policy is to protect and preserve the wild animals and plants that are indigenous to this beautiful southwest region of the USA. Carefully monitoring water resources and protecting this fragile desert habitat achieve this aim. The ranch works closely with the Arizona Dept. of Game and Fish and the Bureau of Land Management.

Some of the animals that frequent the ranch include deer, mountain lions, bob cats, rabbits, rattle snakes, lizards, coyotes.

History & Legends: Grand Canyon West Ranch has a colorful history. The original ranch headquarters is located next to Diamond Bar Springs that has been known to Native Americans for the last 3,600 years. The oldest inhabitants at the springs were the Cohina Indians whose roasting pits have been carbon dated back to circa 1600 B.C. The Indians called the springs "Tanyika Springs."

Around 1860, after the Hualapai War, gold miners built a Stamp Mill to crush ore for the King Tut Gold Mine. From the 1870's onwards, the Mormons used the springs as a resting and watering place for wagon trains. In May of 1889, the Hualapai Indian Tribe's first Ghost Dance ritual was held at these Springs. In 1904 the alleged gunfighter and cattle rancher, "Tap" Duncan bought the ranch to escape from his previous... "profession." He became one of the most widely respected pioneer cattlemen. From 1915 onwards, an unknown cowboy called Bruce Kiskaddon worked for Tap. He wrote about the ranch and in doing so started "Cowboy Poetry."

Traveling by car to the Ranch is a fun way to see the beautiful southwestern United States. Visitors departing from Las Vegas save hours of non-scenic highway drive time by visiting the much closer and more exclusive West Rim of the Grand Canyon. from Las Vegas, it's only 113 miles to the West Rim, as compared to 295 miles to the South Rim. You'll avoid the crowds and spend your time taking in the scenic splendor of the southwest as your short two and a half hour journey will take you through a 900 year old Joshua Tree Forest on the way to to the oldest working ranch in Mojave County, the historic Grand Canyon West Ranch.

*Tipi Note: Tipi stays only available March through November.
